Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) is often seen as a disorder, but what if it's actually untapped potential? In this talk, we'll challenge the conventional view of trauma and explore how high-stress experiences can reveal, rather than diminish, our innate resilience. Using a principle-based understanding, I'll share how shifting perspective from "damage" to "potential" can transform personal recovery, leadership, relationships, and daily life. A Professional Pickup Artists Guide to Safe Patient Handling

Featuring Rick Binder

About the Session:
In the good ol’ days, EMS providers were like superheroes, using only bedsheet capes and ingenuity to lift, carry, transfer, and restrain patients. Although these methods got the job done, patient handling is now the leading cause of injury for EMS providers, according to the CDC. It’s time to rethink patient handling from the ground up. Using a $20k power stretcher only to manually lift patients by their extremities seems more paradoxical than professional. This presentation will offer sample policies, training resources, and an engineering control roadmap designed to keep EMS personnel injury-free and support long, successful careers as modern-day heroes.

About the Speaker:

Rick Binder is the CEO of PHASE, Patient Handling and Safety Experts, and has held 13 certifications from NAEMT, FEMA, and NFPA. He began his career as an EMT-I and a few years later joined his father in bringing the Binder Lift to market in 2013. In the years since, Rick has authored a Prehospital Patient Handling Risk Assessment, produced an accredited Prehospital Safe Patient Handling Course, and developed new products that help emergency care providers avoid patient handling related injuries.
